Fuyu Fest is a Portland, Oregon sake festival celebrating Winter in the Pacific Northwest and hosted by Sunflower Sake.

Entering our third year, Fuyu Fest is an exploratory, educational, PNW Winter-themed sake festival, with activities, demos, food, artists and cultural activities in addition to tasting over 65 (nearly 80!) different sake with the passionate people who make and import them! Local food, coffee, snack and treat vendors will have lunch & snacks available from 1PM onward (a great opportunity to check in early!), while passionate sake professionals will fill your glasses and your minds from 2-5PM.
20% of ticket revenues are donated to elder lunch and community program Ikoi no Kai.

Ticket Types:

There are two ticket types before January 1st: Early Bird ($75, before 1/1/25) and Early Bird + Sakazuki (adds $39, for a total of $114). After 1/1/25, Early Bird pricing will be replaced with General Admission pricing ($85). Sakazuki, a type of sake cup usually associated with a more conical shape, are made by local artist Dwayne Sackey, whose information follows. Sakazuki orders placed prior to 1/1/25 are guaranteed, but after 1/1 supplies will be very limited and may sell out (he needs time to make them!)

Venue

Our lil' baby sake festival is growing up, and for the first time ever will be taking place at a real event venue: The Redd on Salmon in Southeast Portland.

Activities & Demos

While the full lineup of guests and activities will be revealed over time, we have some incredible activities planned...including, but not limited to, the return of our dear friends @okan.lover from Tokyo. Okan Lover is Jo Takasaki from the Tokyo hot sake pairing restaurant Takasaki no Okan and "Akai" Kohei, Yamagata Yamabushi guide and Niida Honke sake ambassador.

Many many announcements to follow in the coming months! Keep an eye on fuyufest.org, the Sunflower Sake newsletter, and the @fuyufest / @sunflowersake instagram accounts for updates.

Commemorative Sakazuki:

Every year, Sunflower Sake collaborates with a local PNW artist to create a limited edition piece of functional art. Works like these add to your sake experience, bringing depth and beauty beyond the drink iteself, & contribute to the PNW artists’ community we are so proud of. Please note that Dwayne’s Pots are one of a kind due to the action of natural glazes, and as a result, commemorative sakazuki colors will vary. Your cup will be ready to pick up and use at Fuyu Fest 2025. You are still welcome to use/take a regular Fuyu Fest tasting cup in addition to your commemorative cup-- Fuyu Fest taking cups are typically mass-produced, but made of natural materials like wood, bamboo or ceramic

Sakazuki Artist Statement:

“I do not aim for “flawlessness” – my work leaves a trace of a fluid, organic process and a human set of hands. Windswept trees, cold blue bodies of water & lichen-covered granite boulders intrigue &  inform my artistic palette. Gentle curves, textured surfaces, &  meandering lines speak through my art. Atmospheric, expressive brush strokes and luscious glazes mimic the timelessness of nature.”
