This brooding sakazuki features a deep, glassy coffee interior with a shimmering aura of chartreuse and dusty purple, leading up to a pale cream rim. The intense coffee center seems so richly colored that it couldn't possibly be shallow. Underneath, a soft array of sagey brown earth tones reminiscent of the finest tea.Â
The delicate, paper-thin ceramic feels like the barest boundary between lips and sake. The wide mouth of the cup makes sake taste sweeter, and the gentle angle of entry created by the shallow sakazuki lets the sake flow over the tongue slowly, enhancing body and mouthfeel.
These cups are handcrafted by Ehime-trained Tokyo artist Benio Tomishima.Â
