This set of two contrasting choko (sake cups), one deep, one shallow, makes for a fun pair of mix and match. A pale fleshy pink background is set against an electric lemon-lime and deep rusty maroon melting pattern created naturally by Benio's custom glazes. Her delicately crafted, paper-thin ceramic feels like the barest boundary between lips and sake. The wide mouth of the cup makes sake taste sweeter, and the wide angle of entry created by the shallow sakazuki lets the sake flow over the tongue slowly, enhancing body and mouthfeel...while the taller choko lets you appreciate more of the aroma.
These cups are handcrafted by Ehime-trained Tokyo artist Benio Tomishima.Â
