Silky waves of turquoise, seafoam green and frothy churned seawater mix gently in this smooth guinomi. The interior of the glass looks like staring into a tidepool, with flashes of orange coral and pink sea anemone, created naturally by Benio's custom glazes. Sections of the exterior look like white waves lapping against a gloomy winter shoreline, while the smooth pale rim invites you to sip.
These cups are handcrafted by Ehime-trained Tokyo artist Benio Tomishima. Her delicately crafted ceramic feels like the barest boundary between lips and sake. The wide mouth of the guinomi makes sake taste sweeter and lets your nose enter the glass, appreciating more of the aroma and allowing for a more generous pour between refills.
Benio is compensated in proportion to American retail pricing, in order to afford her a fair percentage of Sunflower sales.Â
