A work of subtlety, this guinomi is titled "soaring spores" because of the tiny flecks of particulate glaze that adorn it, the earthy mushroomy hues, and the fungi-inspired patterns on the outside that remind me of the textured, fuzzy beauty of growing moulds. The intricacy is really stunning in person-- photos do no justice to the silvery, blue-green-rusting copper tones.

These cups are handcrafted by Ehime-trained Tokyo artist Benio Tomishima. Her delicately crafted ceramic feels like the barest boundary between lips and sake. The wide mouth of the guinomi makes sake taste sweeter and lets your nose enter the glass, appreciating more of the aroma and allowing for a more generous pour between refills.

Benio is compensated in proportion to American retail pricing, in order to afford her a fair percentage of Sunflower sales.Â
