A whorl of juicy colors: strawberry ice cream pink, orange julius orange, Blue Ice blue and the deep translucent color of caramelized sugar, dance together in the interior of this cup. The outside reminds me of wispy blue and pink cotton candy. This guinomi (a larger sake cup, or smaller teacup) is fun and bulbous, gorgeous yet playful, sitting softly on a low heel.
Benio's delicately crafted ceramic feels like the barest boundary between lips and sake. The wide, smooth mouth of the guinomi makes sake taste sweeter and lets your nose enter the glass, appreciating more of the aroma and allowing for a more generous pour between refills.
These cups are handcrafted by Ehime-trained Tokyo artist Benio Tomishima.
Benio is compensated in proportion to American retail pricing, in order to afford her a fair percentage of Sunflower sales.
