Using sometsuke (染付) underglaze techniques typical of Kutani ware and Arita ware, young woman artist Michiko Nakaara creates a whimsical pattern of daisies and crosses. Kutani-yaki is an ancient tradition, one of the nine famous kilns of Japan, particularly well known for its intricate painted designs and fine porcelain pottery mixed with stoneware, making for a more rich, deeper-hued base tone.
