Produced by Riedel and now discontinued in the US, this junmai-specific glass took several years and the involvement of countless industry professionals (including experienced toji) to perfect. It's designed to optimize the drinking experience for Junmai sake.

Like the Usuhari daiginjo glass, I carry this wacky junmai glass because based I firmly believe it enhances the experience of drinking junmai-shu. How? I'm not entirely sure, but the wide basin lets the aromas dissipate in a way that optimizes the aroma profile, and the sake tastes both sweeter and rounder on the palate. In a white wine glass for instance, Yuho Rhythm of the Centuries gives off aromas of pickle and cabbage-- wildly different from the nutty, dairy aromas I get in the Junmai glass. This may be due to the way the aromas are concentrated and the distance they travel to your nose.

If you're serous about your junmai, it's worth the (very reasonable) price for these hand-blown Riedel glasses. Note that supply is limited as these glasses are no longer in production in the US. In-store pickup only due to their fragility.
