Farmhouse-style stoneware set (3) Unnamed Miyagi artist

With a rustic, French farmhouse-inspired fleur de lis flower bud decoration, this hand-thrown set of 3: a unique faceted katakuchi, two bajohai (stemmed) sakazuki, is crafted by an unnamed Miyagi artist (truly my fault-- I lost his card at the Kita no Craft Fair!)

This is an unusually large, nearly ni-go (300ml) katakuchi and more sizable bajohai which is quite convenient and practical. The pieces overall are much lighter than their size appears, which speaks to the craftmanship always evident in Japanese shuki: not only should they look good, but they should also drink well, too. At Sunflower we discern not only on the basis of looks, but much more critically: does this person truly understand what a pleasant sake cup feels like on the lips, and in the hands?
