Fukuchiyo Shuzo was founded in 1923 and is located in the Ariake Sea facing town of Kashima in Saga prefecture. Gearing up for the brewery's 100th anniversary, the original merchant house has recently been renovated into luxury auberge, and the original milling room into a private tasting room.
In 1998, current toji and president Iimori Naoki and his small team of brewers created the Nabeshima brand, named after Nabeshima Naomasa, the final daimyo of the Saga domain in the late Edo period. With Nabeshima, Iimori wanted to produce a sake that could only be made in Saga, and beloved by the locals.
