Vintage Seto-ware sake set with one tokkuri and 5 ochoko from Seyei China, Nagano prefecture, Japan. Seyei was established in 1896 and produced a range of porcelain in the Seto style, from everyday ware to luxury hand-painted collectibles.
This set is pattern #1552, Bamboo Garden, likely produced between 1960-1970 for export. The porcelain is impressed with a soft grid pattern, painted with a silver rim, and a stamped with a bamboo design.
At once retro, soft glam, and understated, it's a set that has really grown on me. This would make a lovely thematic set for the start of bamboo shoot season, March to May, for enjoying an elegant, complex, richly colored sake (like Ine Mankai's Full Bloom, modeled with the set), or for enjoying sake in snowy conditions-- the white porcelain reflecting the serene mood of your surroundings.
