This vintage set of 3 ochoko and one tokkuri is painted with a hanami picnic motif, featuring two revelers and a happy child dancing about. The tokkuri makes a happy whistling sound as it pours-- air flows through the golden bird on the top of the carafe, creating a whistle. The ochoko themselves can also be used to whistle by blowing across the hollow chamber in the holden handle.
The tokkuri is marked "Kutani" to indicate the kiln of origin and all pieces feature a combination of applique and hand painted details. Estimated age is 1960-1970s.
